Working After Dark: the Saltaire tour guide


 

A close friend runs tours of Saltaire UNESCO World Heritage Site and in winter-time specialises in After Dark tours. She dresses in Victorian clothes and gets a lift from home as it's difficult to drive in a crinoline. Afterwards, she enjoys a drink in the local pub and remains in costume. It's heart-warming to accompany the tour and to see someone so happy in their work. This night was very dark - starless and moonless - and only a few of the photographs were any good.

Second foray alone

  A second wander in pleasantly warm weather and I was very conscious of hanging around outside people's homes, setting off their security lights. It is, however, one of those neighbourhoods where wheelie bins, cars and skips are parked on the kerb so there were plenty of hiding places. I enjoyed these roadworks.
